Since opening its doors in 1970, About Faces has grown from a single location into a beloved brand with four thriving locations in Towson, Timonium, Pikesville, and Salisbury. Generations of clients have trusted About Faces to help them look and feel their best, making it much more than just a spa, it’s become a part of Maryland’s lifestyle and culture.
From One Location to Maryland’s Choice for Beauty & Wellness
Founded by Patrick Brennan, About Faces started with a vision: to offer a space where clients could escape the busyness of everyday life and enjoy professional, personalized beauty services. About Faces was the first full service beauty business in Maryland offering haircare, skincare, nailcare and massage under one roof.
Helga Surratt became co-owner in 1978 and in the 80’s expanded the concept into a day spa experience where clients could stay and relax for several hours enjoying a variety of services. Our inaugural “The Day of Beauty” Gift Package was first introduced, which also includes a complimentary lunch in a very relaxing spa atmosphere. Helga was instrumental in the growth of the business throughout the years with her tenacity, love for people, passion for the beauty business and attention to detail.
About Faces now has 280 employees across its four locations providing exceptional customer service, cutting-edge treatments, timeless relaxation and continues to be known as Maryland’s choice for Day Spa and Salon services.
Honoring the Past While Looking Toward the Future
The past few years have brought both challenges and new beginnings. In 2022, the About Faces family experienced the heartbreaking loss of Eric Brennan, a longtime leader in the business and son of Patrick and Helga. In September 2024, the company transitioned to new ownership under Mackey Cronin, a close family friend and Boys’ Latin classmate of Eric’s, ensuring that the spa’s legacy would remain in trusted hands.
Cronin, an experienced entrepreneur, has made it clear that About Faces will continue to honor its history while evolving for the future. He’s kept the founding family involved in the business, preserving the traditions and values that have made About Faces a household name for over five decades.
